Once again, PRP students have created shoe designs for the 2015 Vans Custom Culture competition. Students in all Ms. Webb’s design classes participate in this annual contest, where they brainstorm and research for ideas, create concepts using Adobe Creative Suite on the computer, vote on winning designs, and collaborate in teams to paint prototypes of designs in four categories: Art, Music, Action Sports and Local Flavor. The top fifty schools in the country will be announced on Friday, April 24. Fingers crossed!

Design students produce the first issue of the River City Business Association Newsletter
PRP Creative members Taylor Gray, Nick Bolton and Joseph Morrison collaborated to produce the first ever issue of the RBA Newsletter. Students began working with the River City Business Association in the fall and met with the organization during one of their monthly luncheons to discuss plans for design. RBA member company Café Press donated the printing, and RBA President, Jenny Fox, worked with students to provide content. RBA consists of businesses along the Dixie Highway corridor and the Greenbelt area surrounding our school. Special thanks to RBA for partnering with our class on this student-led project!RBA_News_Issue1

PRP Creative Wins 1st in the District!
[Left to right] Seniors Morgan Tilton, Taylor Gray, Kelaiah Clark, Malik Alleyne-Jones and Kara Barnett placed 1st in the district in this year’s Louisville Advertising Federation’s High School Marketing Challenge. This year’s challenge topic was teen sleep deprivation, and the team created a student survey which incorporated statistics models from their calculus class, a logo “Carpe Noctem” and a tagline “Seize the Night”. The group created an animated logo, a poster campaign, implemented a social media marketing campaign, and pitched an app concept that would monitor the amount of sleep students get each night. The Louisville Ad Fed High School Marketing Challenge is sponsored by Humana.

[Left to Right] PRP Seniors Kelaiah Clark, Danielle Craft, and Taylor Gray display their designs created for the JCPS Nutrition Services Fruit & Veggie of the Month Campaign.
Students worked together to identify their audience, research nutritional facts for each month’s featured item, to rank their ideas, collaborate to find the best solutions, and present their final designs to receive feedback/refine their project. Students decided to use a unified design approach for the Fruit and Veggie of the Month campaign, allowing students to take turns designing the posters without compromising the brand identity. This project helped students express ideas, collaborate with clients and peers, learn digital media they can use long after graduation, and to think outside the box. The posters will be displayed to all JCPS elementary, middle and high school cafeterias throughout the 2014-15 school year.

Senior Design Students Visit UofL
A group of students from PRP Creative took an afternoon before the start of Fall break to sit in on a Graphic Design class at UofL. Students listened as university students presented a project from their Design for Public Issues class. Afterwards, students enjoyed listening to an in-class critique in the Design for Social Media class. Thanks to Leslie Friesen and UofL for hosting our visit!
