2016 VANS Custom Culture

VANS_FINALGroup

PRP Design students just finished uploading this year’s entries in the VANS Custom Culture competition. The annual contest, sponsored by VANS, challenges students to create shoe designs based upon four themes: Action Sports, Local Flavor, Music and Art. Students in all classes generated original designs after brainstorming for ideas in groups. Then, students downloaded templates for each of the VANS shoe styles, and began creating their designs on paper and on the computer. Click on the video link below, to see the process used to create this year’s entry. Kudos to Jada Bruce for filming and producing the video. Wish us luck!!!

PRP Alum featured in New Video

This video features a recent PRP graduate, Jayla Stevenson, who is now attending college in Boston. She graduated from PRP last May, was editor of the Yearbook, and held many leadership roles in our school. So proud of her many accomplishments and for her part in delivering the powerful message in this video!

Students Team Up for the Marshmallow Challenge

PRP Design students recently competed in an in-class team building exercise called the marshmallow challenge. This was serious business. After all, a giant bag of skittles were at stake! It was a fun and instructive design exercise that encourages teams to experience simple, but profound lessons in collaboration, innovation and creativity. The task is simple: teams have 18 minutes to build the tallest free standing structure out of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow, which must be placed on top. Surprises emerge with every team. Who tends to do the worst? Who tends to do the best? Why? What improves performance? What kills it?

PRP Innovative Wins 2015 High School Marketing Challenge

FullSizeRender-4

More than 14 PRP design students participated and competed in this year’s high school marketing challenge, sponsored by Becker Law Office and Louisville Advertising Federation/AIGA. Everyone enjoyed this year’s challenge brief, tackling the topic of texting and driving. Students formed two teams [PRP Innovative & PRP Creative], and worked together to create two distinctly different campaigns.

Congrats to the winning team, PRP Innovative, who won first place for their Drop-N-Drive campaign. Team members are PRP seniors Taylor Mingus, Jada Bruce, Erin Greenwood, Jamia Cadet, Emily Johnson, Baylee Peck, and Jalen Spreitler. The team will receive a trophy, cash prizes and an opportunity to present their campaign to business professionals at an AIGA luncheon this spring.

Ky Youth Film Festival 2015

Untitled-1Congratulations to PRP senior Ashley Palmer, who won second place for her poster design at the 2015 Ky Youth Film Festival. Ashley joined other student winners in a limousine ride to the awards ceremony at Louisville Slugger Museum, and is shown here with her winning design entry. The annual competition is a part of the Louisville Film Festival. A special thanks to JCPS and the Louisville Youth Film Fest for supporting this event.

PRP Students Staying Curious at IdeaFest 2015

PRP’s National Art Society Members enjoyed a full day before Fall Break at the 2015 IdeaFestival, held at the Ky Center for the Arts. Thanks to a generous donor, complimentary full day passes to the event were given to selected schools. Students enjoyed listening to Middle East journalist Stephanie Fried’s harrowing tales of working in war torn areas, and were inspired by visual and performing artists who shared insights into their creative process. Lunch, a game of Ping Pong on the steps of the Ky Center, a walking tour of Main Street and a quick look at the 21C Museum made our day complete!
